Project definition by our customer

Within the scope of a channel construction project, AKER WIRTH engineered a tunnel boring machine in the form of a swivelling shield tunnel boring machine with EPB technology. The documentation required for this was intended to follow a new structure. The objective was to increase the clarity of the operating manual, to optimise the search time for certain sections and topics, and to keep duplications to a minimum. First the operating manual was to be prepared in German, followed by a translation into English. Another important requirement was to prepare the operating manual in such a way that portions of it could later be used to train the employees of AKER WIRTH's customer.

Solution for our client

arvato services took over the restructuring of the operating manual, and introduced a concept in close consultation with WIRTH that matched the requirements precisely. Over the further course of the project, arvato services handled the translation of the source documentation with the use of translation memory systems and English databases from previous projects.
To allow the user to quickly navigate through the operating manual, a CD-ROM with interactively linked PDF-files was created. This can later be used for training purposes, as well.
For the use of the operating manual direct on the tunnel boring machine, operating manuals were printed, put together and sent to their location of application.

Furthermore, arvato services will in future provide additional consulting services for the entire field of technical documentation, as well as risk analysis.
